1) Originally, ICEE was a joint venture between the Healthcare Management Institute (HMI), a division of UTMB (University of Texas Medical Branch) Healthcare Systems, Inc., and the Enterprise Engagement Alliance (EEA) established in 2017.
At that time, HMI was acting as secretariat for the International Standards Organisation Working Group that created the first four human resources standards (ISO/TC 260 - Human resource management), including the "ISO 30401 Knowledge Management Systems – Requirements" standard. When UTMB withdrew in 2019, EEA continued to collaborate with the people from HMI who had chaired ISO/TC 260 and co-founded the ICEE. In 2019 and 2020 the two co-founders from HMI left ICEE and opened up their own ISO standards certification firms known as International Service Standards Solutions (2019-2022) and KM/HR Systems Auditors (2020-present). KM/HR Systems Auditors was co-founded with the first ISO 30401 Auditor accredited by HMI in 2019 (The second ISO 30401 Auditor was accredited by ICEE in 2020.).
2) Certification candidates must join the Enterprise Engagement Alliance; Certification re-examination is every five years; Certified people are also known as "Accredited ISO 30401 Auditor", or "ICEE – Accredited ISO Knowledge Management Auditor (IKMA)". Since Spring 2020, KM/HR Systems Auditors claims to have the authority to certify ISO 30401 auditors, ICEE does not have it anymore.
