1) Between 1874 and 1961 the University of Otago was an affiliated college of the federal University of New Zealand
2) The Otago Business School (Division of Commerce) was formerly known as Division/Faculty of Commerce only and the Faculty of Commerce and Law.
3) The Department of Information Science (est. 1991) was originally part of the Department of Quantitative and Computer Studies, Division of Sciences. In 2023 it merged with the Department of Computer Science to form the School of Computing within the Division of Sciences.
4) The KIWI Lab was formerly Known as Knowledge Engineering and Computational Intelligence Laboratory and Knowledge Engineering Laboratory (KEL; est. 1991). Dissolved in 2023.
5) The University of Otago College of Education was formed in January 2007, upon the merger of the University of Otago and the Dunedin College of Education (Māori: Te Kura Akau Taitoka; est. 1876 as Dunedin Training College, 1953-1989: Dunedin Teachers' College)
6) The Centre for Distance Education and Learning Technologies (est. 2007) was formerly known as Distance Learning Centre (est. 1997). It was dissolved in 2021?
