1) STI2 is an initiative of the European Semantic Systems Initiative (ESSI), the European FP6 Project Knowledge Web and DERI International
2) ESWC was formerly known as the European Semantic Web Symposium (ESWS; 2004), the European Semantic Web Conference (ESWC) from 2005-2009, the Extended Semantic Web Conference (ESWC; 2010-2012, due to the acquisition of the European Semantic Technology Conference (ESTC) by Mediabistro in 2011), and again the European Semantic Web Conference (ESWC; since 2013); Initially it was established and organized by the European Semantic Systems initiative (ESSI), formely the SEKT, DIP, and Knowledge Web (SDK) project cluster from 2004-2006, the major seed for the establishment of STI International.
3) ESTC has been invented and annually organized by STI International from 2007 to 2010. In 2011, Mediabistro.com has taken over the event from STI International. It was continued as SemTechBiz London (2011-2012) and SemTechBiz Berlin (2012) by Mediabistro.
4) ASWC was established in 2006 with the aim of emulating the success of the International and European Semantic Web Conference series in Asia. The conference series was established as a direct result of the 'Building an integrated leading Euro-Asian higher education and research community in the field of the SemanTic WEB' (EASTWEB) project, which aimed to foster cooperation between European and Asian Institutes. ASWC may be the quasi-predecessor of the of the Joint International Semantic Technology Conference (JIST).
5) ACWS 2008, originally scheduled for 8-11 December 2008 in Bangkok, was postponed to February 2009 due to the occupation of the Bangkok airport in December 2008. ASWS 2008 originally scheduled for 1-6 December 2008, was not postponed to February 2009. It took place on 8-12 December 2008 in Bangkok.
6) In 2018, ESWC Summer Schools, organized by STI International, are continued in cooperation with the International Semantic Web Research School (ISWS), organized by the Bertinoro International Center for Informatics
