1) NDU was established by a merger of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF, est. 1924, today known as Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy (Eisenhower School), formerly the Army Industrial College) and the National War College (NWC, est. 1946. an upgraded replacement for the Army-Navy Staff College, est 1943).
2) Currently (3/2022) the IRMC/iCollege is known as College of Information and Cyberspace (CIC). formerly it was known as as the Department of Defense Computer Institute (DODCI)
3) The "New Professional Studies: Knowledge Management" 36-credit hour program is offered jointly with the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University. (2001-2009)
Admission is limited primarily to holders of NDU certificates, although other applicants will be considered for a graduate certificate in Knowledge Management.
Masters degree applicants must have completed either the Chief Information Officer (CIO) Program or Advanced Management Program (AMP) offered by the NDU IRMC or its equivalent. These applicants will generally be eligible to transfer in 15 hours of graduate credit towards their master's degree. Courses offered by George Mason University comprise the additional 21 hours required for the master's degree. Students who do not hold NDU certificates may be awarded a certificate upon completion of the George Mason University component of the Knowledge Management master's degree.
